We may collect personal information:

  • Directly from you when you use a Riverhorse website, calculator, form, application or service.

5. Why we collect and use information

We may use personal information to:

  • Provide the website, calculator, review or service you requested.
  • Produce indicative calculations, comparisons, reports and scenarios.
  • Understand the objective or purpose of your enquiry.
  • Identify services or options that may be relevant to you.
  • Respond to questions and requests.
  • Determine whether an adviser, Financial Advice Provider, lender, finance provider or other professional may be able to assist you.

  • Carry out another purpose you have authorised or that is permitted by law.

We will only collect information that we reasonably require for a lawful purpose connected with our activities.

6. Indicative analysis and technology

Some Riverhorse services use software, calculation engines, automation or artificial intelligence to analyse information, produce indicative calculations, identify potential options, organise enquiries or help determine which type of adviser or provider may be relevant.

These tools may use information you provide together with available product, rate, market or other information.

An indicative calculation, comparison or system generated result is not necessarily financial advice, approval or an offer from a lender or provider.

Where financial advice is required, it must be provided by an appropriately authorised financial adviser or Financial Advice Provider.

7. Connecting you with an adviser or provider

One purpose of some Riverhorse services is to help a person identify whether further assistance may be worthwhile and, where that person wants assistance, connect them with an appropriate adviser or provider.

Where a website asks whether you would like someone to contact you, selecting the affirmative option authorises Riverhorse to use and disclose relevant personal information for that purpose.

Depending on the service, this may include providing a selected adviser, Financial Advice Provider, finance provider or other relevant provider with:

  • Your identity and contact information.
  • The information relevant to your enquiry.
  • Calculator or modelling information.
  • Your stated objectives and preferences.
  • Information about the reason you requested assistance.
  • Relevant communications or structured summaries.
  • Other information reasonably required to respond to your request.

The specific website notice will explain the intended recipients and the action that authorises the referral.

8. Commercial referral and qualified enquiry fees

Riverhorse operates commercial technology, referral and connection services.

Riverhorse may charge or receive a fee for:

  • Introducing a customer to an adviser or provider.
  • Supplying a qualified customer enquiry.
  • Giving an adviser access to a qualified enquiry through ClientConnection or another Riverhorse service.
  • Technology or qualification services associated with an enquiry.
  • Referral, marketplace, subscription or other commercial services.

This means Riverhorse may receive payment when relevant personal information is provided to an adviser or provider for the purpose that has been explained to you and authorised by you.

Payment to Riverhorse does not give the recipient unrestricted ownership of your personal information or authority to use it for unrelated purposes.

Riverhorse does not provide unrestricted customer databases or personal information to unrelated organisations for purposes that have not been disclosed, authorised or otherwise permitted by law.

9. Who we may disclose personal information to

Depending on the service and purpose, information may be disclosed to:

  • Mortgage advisers.
  • Financial Advice Providers.
  • Business finance advisers.
  • Lenders or finance providers where appropriate and authorised.
  • Professional service providers assisting Riverhorse.
  • Hosting, database, communications, analytics and technology providers.
  • Identity, fraud prevention or verification providers where required.
  • Payment providers where a payment service is used.
  • Contractors working for Riverhorse who require access to perform their duties.
  • Regulators, government agencies, courts or other persons where disclosure is required or permitted by law.
  • Another person or organisation you specifically authorise.

We will limit disclosure to information reasonably relevant to the applicable purpose.

10. Marketing and electronic communications

We may communicate with you about the service you requested, your enquiry, a review, an adviser connection or another transaction or service involving you.

Where we send commercial electronic marketing communications, we will comply with applicable New Zealand electronic messaging requirements.

Where required, we will obtain or rely upon an appropriate form of consent before sending commercial electronic messages.

Commercial electronic communications will identify the sender and provide an appropriate method for stopping future marketing communications.

You can withdraw your marketing consent or unsubscribe from marketing communications.

Stopping marketing communications does not necessarily prevent us from sending service, security, transactional or administrative communications that are reasonably required in connection with a service you are using.

11. Cookies, analytics and website information

Our websites may use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Operate the website.
  • Maintain security.
  • Remember settings.
  • Understand website usage.
  • Measure performance.
  • Improve services.
  • Understand the source of enquiries.
  • Measure marketing or advertising effectiveness where applicable.

Each site must identify any material analytics, advertising or tracking technologies it uses in its Site Privacy Notice or cookie information where appropriate.

12. Information received from another organisation

Riverhorse may sometimes receive your personal information from another organisation rather than directly from you.

Where the Privacy Act 2020 requires us to notify you about an indirect collection, Riverhorse will take reasonable steps to make you aware of:

  • The fact that we have collected your information.
  • Why we have collected it.
  • The intended recipients.
  • Riverhorse Technologies Limited as the agency collecting and holding the information, where applicable.
  • Our address.
  • Any relevant statutory authority for the collection where applicable.
  • Your rights to request access to and correction of your information.

A site or communication may provide this information through a specific privacy notice linked to this Privacy Policy.

13. Overseas services and service providers

Riverhorse may use technology and service providers that operate, store information or process information outside New Zealand.

Where the Privacy Act 2020 applies to disclosure of personal information outside New Zealand, Riverhorse will take steps required by that Act to ensure that the disclosure is permitted and that appropriate privacy safeguards apply.

14. Protecting personal information

Riverhorse uses reasonable administrative, technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, unauthorised use, modification, disclosure and other misuse.

Access to personal information should be limited to people and systems that require it for an authorised purpose.

No internet or electronic storage system can provide an absolute guarantee against every security risk.

15. How long we keep personal information

Riverhorse will retain personal information only for as long as reasonably required for a lawful purpose, including providing services, maintaining appropriate business and consent records, resolving disputes and meeting legal or regulatory obligations.

Different types of information may have different retention periods.

Information that is no longer required should be securely deleted, anonymised or otherwise disposed of where appropriate.

16. Accessing and correcting your information

You may ask Riverhorse whether we hold personal information about you and request access to that information.

You may also ask us to correct personal information that you believe is inaccurate, incomplete, out of date or misleading.

We may need to verify your identity before processing a request.

Privacy requests can be sent to:

info@riverhorse.io

Please mark your communication for the attention of the Privacy Officer.

17. Privacy complaints

If you have a concern about how Riverhorse has handled your personal information, please contact our Privacy Officer first so that we can investigate the issue.

19. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our services, technology, websites or legal obligations change.

The current version will show its effective or last updated date.
